Then there is bare feet on the earth and prayers of thanksgiving. Also, my friend Judy was a minister at a native American Church and I went sometimes to participate. I had a connection at one point with Joe Bruchac, native american poet and story teller. Of course I always go to the "Indian" Dances at the fair and elsewhere. Now I miss it very much, being in a city and having no conctact with the Native American people who keep as strong and in touch with the earth and grateful with a spirit of Thanksgiving. I feel estranged. I remember at a Mid-winter gathering years ago when the women's dance you mentionned was going to take place.

The drummer (a hand drum is more traditional Ojibway than a big powwow drum) spoke about how it's pretty much impossible for men to dance that way because of the way we are made in the hips, that women's bodies only, work with that dance.

Traditional women shawl dancers now dance without lifting their feet from the earth. It's quite stately, actually.Peterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16052081819882002321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9799907.post-1165588718612192962006-12-08T09:38:00.000-05:002006-12-08T09:38:00.000-05:00You are so fantastically descriptive!
