I don't have a river, but I have a beautiful and solidly frozen lake with a skating path. However, the wiser part of valour is waiting until the temperature's above -10C to brave the outdoors for long!
Ha, so the Joni song reference photo posting continues. As spring rolls in, I guess Little Green will be coming up (although the subject is entirely different from the words in the title). I love this song too. And as for my dream of skating on a real body of water, I got my wish in late Dec., early Jan. 01-02 -- when I was seven months pregnant. I skated twice on a really big lake/pond at the back of our house. It was heavenly! (the pond was frozen solid. People had been fishing on it for quite a while, so it was pretty safe).
