Leaving on a jet plane

I'll be offline for the next week because I will be flying to the other coast for a conference. It's a small, friendly conference that I've been involved with for years so I am really looking forward to this week. It'll be a busy week, filled with things I love to do. Exploring a new part of the country. Catching up with old friends. Hearing some of my favorite writers read. Listening to great sessions on all kinds of topics. Talking about books and teaching and writing. Venting about the Bush administration and what it's done to the environment. Meeting new people from all over the country. Going out to lunch or dinner with friends. Buying new books. Debating new ideas. Staying up late to listen to friends jam on guitar and harmonica.

Unlike most academic conferences, which take place in a hotel, this one takes place on a college campus and includes some cool field trips. I'll be going on a botany hike and a raft trip. And perhaps most interesting to those of you in the blogging community, the trip will include my first ever blogger meet-up!

I promise to come home with stories to tell.

Jealous, jealous of the lucky blogger!
Have a great time. We'll miss you. I don't suppose you're stopping in any places in between there and that other coast?

Have a blast! More conferences should be set up this way.

Psycho Kitty: I'll spend about an hour in the airport outside Chicago: does that count?

PPB: Yeah, we get to stay in dorms. It's so much better than a hotel. It's like being in college again.
