Youngest

medal

With-a-Why was the youngest member of the family to run in the family race last week. He's an unusually quiet kid so no one was surprised that he didn't say much about the race, although we'd catch a glimpse of his shy smile when we all told him how well he had done. Since the race, he has worn his t-shirt and medal every single day. It’s been nice to see him in blue, instead of the usual black. (He worships his older brother, Boy in Black – and gets his hand-me-downs.) But today, a full week after the race, I am trying to convince him that really, the shirt needs to be washed.

Wow. Another sign of the great race's massive success! I love it that he's worn it every day. :)

I can picture him standing in front of the washer/dryer, hopping up and down on his toes, waiting impatiently for the shirt to come out of the wash.

A very nice photo. Are youngest children always the quiet ones? My youngest brother never said much at home, but seemed to have a completely different outgoing personality when he went to college and was living among his friends. My youngest boy also seems to be more of an observer than an active participant in our chaotic household. I wonder if it's a birth order thing or a coincidence of personality.

I'm on to you, jo(e). You just want his shirt when it gets out of the wash :)

girl makes a very good point. W-a-W's a bright kid, too. He's probably figured out that his shirt is probably the best size for you. Can't say I blame him.

I love the picture. As the youngest of seven, I was just like him as a kid.

Oh, you all know me too well.

As you can see from the photo, the shirt is a little big for him. But it would fit me perfectly ....

He is just the cutest. Congratulations to the whole family for a successful race!

If he's anything like my 12-yr old son, the shirt is no longer blue but very multihued?

That shirt still looks pretty clean to me! LOL.

My boys can't wear a shirt for 10 minutes without it developing major stains.

I'd say he has another week to go before you have to forcibly remove it.

Rachel: Oh, the photo was taken the day of the race. Chip's got the right idea about what the shirt looks like now. (And yeah, he still has it on ....)

I'm putting $5 on him wearing this shirt once a week for the rest of his life.

Jeez, and here I was getting all excited that my son might actually be able to keep a shirt clean for a week when he's 12. Maybe an hour?

Yep, Sheepish, I can see him standing in the laundry room, watching it go round in the dryer. Jo(e) won't have a chance to steal it. Wonderful post. He's darling.
