We wondered if the winter weather would keep away Chain
Lightning, the guy we’ve seen playing piano in Washington Square Park on our
last two visits to the city. (Our nickname for him comes from the conversation
Shaggy Hair Boy had with him about Ultimate — it’s the name of the club team he
used to play for when he lived in the south.) Our second day in the city, the
weather turned warm and sunny, and when we walked over to the park, we heard
classical music coming from the other side of the famous arch.

Wonderful street image. I like the blend of the unique and "everyday" of this scene.
You're kidding me! Anything really can be found in NYC. Too bad this guy wasn't there when I lived in the lower east side. That would have been really cool.
Great shot. I completed my first semester of grad school at NYU and spent soooo many hours reading and just watching and thinking on those Washington Square Park benches. I always feel good when I see photos of this place.
he has a better piano now, no?
Yeah, it's the same pianist, but he raised money and bought a baby grand. A much nicer piano than he had last year.
WOW! So cool!!!
Milos Forman used that view for the "Easy To Be Hard" scene in the movie version of Hair.
