Handwritten

Handwritten

Today, amidst the form letters and junk mail and bills in my mailbox, I found a letter from a friend. Even as I walked up the driveway, opening the envelope in my eagerness, the excitement of getting a real letter stirred memories. I remembered making necklaces from dandelions, doing a jigsaw puzzle in front of the picture window in my parents’ house, ice skating on a blue-white winter afternoon, reading a paperback book in the bathtub. For just a moment, I retreated into a slower, more leisurely world in which words took days to travel the sixty miles from a friend’s house to mine.

That's a gorgeous picture. When I get handwritten things in the mail, I get very excited! Why don't I send more?

Oh that brings back memories!!! A rarity today indeed.

I'm going to sit right down and write myself a letter....... can't help but think of that song.

I don't write many letters, but I love sending postcards - the handwritten, tangible thing pleases me.

A letter is a little gift. Email/Facebook/Twitter can be fun or useful or helpful but an electronic message is not a gift.

There's a blog post I've been meaning to write about how my super-creative, rocket-building son has discovered the computer, and how he now spends his free time interacting with a screen rather than creating something in the world. It's dismaying. Which is a weird thing for me to say, seeing as I work as a web developer.

That is just beautiful. I love to receive letters, not just a note but a true old fashion letter like yours. I am waiting...

How cool. I don't think I've received a handwritten letter in all of my adult life! I can't even remember the last one.
