Yep

The Answer

It's a traditional seventh grade project: each kid in the class builds a wooden car that is propelled by a rubber band. With-a-Why decided that his car should carry the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

Yes, in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams (a book that With-a-Why loves), the answer to the Ultimate Question to Life, the Universe, and Everything .... is 42.

You hook the rubber band around the nail on the back, wind it around a few times, and then let it go -- and the car zooms across the room. Every kid in the class made one, and then they raced them and tested them to see how far they'd go.

Funny. My 7th grader did that project, too. Of course she was much more interested in the painting and decorating part than the velocity...
