First excuse of the semester

A student emailed to let me know that she would be missing class on Friday: "I have to go home for a family weeding."

On any other campus, it would most definitely be a typo. But I have many students who come from family farms, and I can't help but think there is some chance that she is going home for a fall gardening ritual.

Depends on how um... 'rural' the place is. I've lived some spots where you could really see a 'family wedding.'

Or maybe smoking pot with her Granny?

I'm imagining a family weeding as a ritual where you get rid of unwanted family members. I know many families that could use a little weeding.

biggest question: did it work?

Ha ha! Once again, Rob's response had me giggling, too.

I love it, jo(e)! Oddly, this is in synch with an old friend of mine who just emailed me today to let me know that he co-founded a permaculture intentional community in Hawai'i'.

PPB: I don't know. I'll have to ask the student on Monday to see if she and her family were able to get rid of any unwanted family members.

Perhaps you could have suggested she send a bottle of Round Up in her place?

Mommyprof: A pesticide? Horrors. Not on this campus. We are all about integrated pest management.

Perhaps some kind of beetle ....

I'm enjoy this line of thought. My initial thought was if perhaps I could get her to come weed my family before the wedding. :)
