Hearth

with guitar

Twice a week, Boy in Black drives back to Train Track Village for a drum or guitar lesson. Usually, he'll stop home for a few hours. The afternoons here are dark and cold now that winter is coming, but the house seems cozy as I sit on the couch with my laptop. Shaggy Hair will work on his homework, while With-a-Why will focus intently on his drawings and ask me to make him soup. I usually build a fire as soon as I get home, and Boy in Black will get out his guitar and harmonica. It's a nice atmosphere: a fire in the fireplace, cats stretched out sleepily in the warmth, and some music from the boy who thinks he is the next Bob Dylan.

The kitty looks like she is thoughtfully listening.

This is so a page out of my life. Our oldest comes home next week with guitar.
Cats will be happy. I must remember to light the fire though:-)

Yeah, we've got to get some wood in. It just this week got cold enough for a fire. Can't wait!

Sounds like a lovely evening.

My son came over to look at the picture. He said "Who is that boy?"
"Boy in Black."
"No, but WHO is he? Is he Uncle Paul?"
"No."
"I think I don't know who he is. Is that OUR cat?"
"No we don't have a cat, honey."
"But COULD it be our cat?"
"I don't think so."
"Oh, okay."
It was a very conversation provoking photo. :) And Boy in Black does resemble my BIL Paul...especially with the guitar.

Landismom: We've already gone through a cord of wood. I think I've had a fire every day since before Halloween.

Mona: Yeah, the facial hair is a new development. He stopped shaving when he went to college. He decided that shaving was a waste of time. It makes him look so much older. He also stopped cutting his hair last winter so he's got this long hair that hangs in his face.

I love my fireplacing fireplace. I'm happy it's finally cold enough to use it.
What a great picture.

I'm really enjoying reading your posts these days. This whole Northern California thing with sunshine and leaves still on the trees feels so wrong. It's hard to get into the Christmas mood here, but your posts help.

What a great picture. It makes me want to move in with you! We don't have a fireplace . . . it would have been an expensive luxury here in Florida . . . but I do miss scenes like these.

Lovely. My Buddy Boy wants to know who that is too, and says he is not a boy he's a man. Buddy wants a guitar for Christmas so maybe one day my living room will look like yours...
