Conversation with my daughter

None of my sons got excited when I pointed out that the spring peepers were singing, so tonight I called my Smart Beautiful Wonderful Daughter. She didn't answer her cell phone, so I left a message, holding the phone out the open window to record the singing and trilling of the peepers, that wonderful mysterious sound of spring. When she called me back, she was laughing.

"Mom, that was the weirdest phone call I’ve ever gotten."

"The spring peepers!" I said, "Could you hear them? I held the phone out the window."

"Yeah, I knew about them already, though."

"What?" I asked, surprised. "Can you hear them where you are?"

"No," she said, "I read about them on your blog."

I *heart* you, Jo(e). This two-part peepers story made me really, truly laugh out loud.

And now I wish I knew what peepers sounded like! But if it helps, I get excited when I hear the robins singing their "this is *my* territory" songs.

OK, now the only thing we're lacking here is an uploaded file with a recording of the sping peepers on the blog (like you did wity your daughter on her phone's answering system)-- I really wish you could do that, come on :)

I do this with a couple of friends a lot. I will say "Did I tell you such and such ?" And they will say "Nope, read it on your blog."

I have similar conversations with my mother, except she is the one reading my blog. And I agree, I want to hear the peepers! I miss the sound dreadfully.

Haha, yeah I'm starting to get that too.
"So yesterday [blah blah blah]."
"Yeah, I read it on your blog."

Soon I won't even have to talk!

What ccw said. How lovely that you blog is yet another thing that you and Smart Beautiful Wonderful Daughter can share.

I've never heard spring peepers? (I'd never even heard of them til I read your other post.) Any way that you could audioblog them? :)

That's what's really cool about blogging. You can put it all out there and hoepfully they all can read it and know. When the Baby grandson was born, I was there with my daughter and I cut the cord. My husband and my son were outside in the hallway, waiting with the SEven-year-old grandson. After I cut the cord, the baby began to cry and the doctor was delivering the placenta and so I called my son's cell phone and held my phone up to the baby and we let the seven-year-old hear his brother's first cries. I love technology. I could have taken a picture and emailed it to them, but I don't know how to do that on my phone. I did, however, video picture it and got most of it.

I'll be excited with you for the peepers, Jo(e). I got out of my car today to take pictures of crocuses peeking out of the ground. I also dragged Josh outside at 11pm, in the dark, to look at the crocuses in our front yard. I'm ALL about the spring. We love spring.

Heard woodpeckers on my early walk -- don't know if I just had missed them before or whether this is more evidence that the world is waking. I like to think that this means that the bugs are up and about too.

I love that I can identify with your excitement - and with the lack of appreciation that the rest of the world seems to pay to the important (but small) things.

Here I am, grinning in recognition.

I'm listening to the spring birds right now. When we moved out here, all we ever heard were crows, and we worried that we'd never hear chirpy birds on the West Coast. It now turns out that we have them all year except in the hottest part of summer. This makes me happy. (Except in the summer, when all you hear is CAW! CAW! CAW!)

I'm coming to the point where I don't get to tell any of my good stories anymore, because everyone's already read them on my blog. This is very frustrating for someone who loves story-telling, and hates being stopped just as she's built up story-momentum.

What a fantastic pair of peeper-blogging posts! You're the best peeper-blogger out there, hands down. ;)

Queen of West Procrastination: Very few people I know in real life even know about my blog -- my daughter is an exception -- so most of the time, I get to tell stories in real life AND write them on my blog ....
